The land is barren and dusty. The sun is scorching. There is little shelter or clean water, and nothing around for miles.
Then, over four days from 4th -7th August, nearly 8,000 animals from across India descend, brought by their owners to be traded.
There is intense overcrowding and with so many animals in one place, disease and infection spread quickly. Badal was just one of the poor animals helped by the Brooke at a fair last year.
He had caught Surra – a nasty parasitic infection – after being bitten by a horsefly. This brave horse was very ill and hadn’t been eating. He was so weak. We quickly treated Badal and advised his owner that he needed rest. If we hadn’t been there, Badal might not have lasted the day.
We need your help to ensure that we are there for thousands of helpless animals, like Badal, at this year’s fair.Your support will allow us to work alongside fair organisers to create a better and safer environment with food, shade and clean water.
During the fair we will give demonstrations of good health practices and teach equine disease awareness through interactive games and activities. And, of course, our trained vets will be on hand to offer vital and urgent treatment to animals, like Badal, whose lives will truly depend on it.
With your help, we really can make India’s equine fair season safer for everyone. The fair is just over 2 months away; it is so important that we are ready. Please send your donation today. You can see photos and updates from the fair on this website from 8th August.
