Suggested wording of your bequest could be as follows:

“I give to American Friends of the Brooke, a charitable corporation organized under the laws of Washington, DC, whose current legal address is:

c/o Chapel & York Limited, PMB 293, 601 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, Suite 900, South Building, Washington, DC 20004 [the sum of $___________ or _______% (or all) of my residuary estate or a specific asset] to be used for its general charitable purposes”.

What tax advantages do charities have?

American Friends of the Brooke does not seek to replace the advice of your own tax counsel.  Please consult your own advisors before making a Will.

What provision should I make for my pets?

Look after their short term needs and long term needs

What about executors?

We recommend at least two, one a personal relative or friend and one professional.

Can the American Friends of the Brooke provide a lasting memorial?

The American Friends of the Brooke would be pleased to erect a memorial plaque overseas. 

How will my legacy be used?

You can request the money to be used for a specific purpose, but we much prefer the freedom to be able to choose to use the money wherever the need is greatest at the time.  We need to secure the long term future of the charity and it may be that when the time comes your specific project is no longer in existence or we may not be working in a particular country.

Does American Friends of the Brooke want to know about my Will?

There is certainly no requirement to notify us but we would like to know so we can thank you during your lifetime.
