The countries

The Brooke is committed to expanding the geographical reach of our work. This is in line with our commitment to improve the welfare of two million working horses, donkeys and mules every year by 2016.

We currently work across Africa, Asia and Latin America and we have selected a number of countries for future expansion.

The Brooke has a number of criteria helping us to decide which countries we should work in. These include countries with:

• High numbers of working horses, donkeys and mules
• High levels of human poverty (using the United Nations’ Human Development Index)
• Potential partners with a common goal
• Adequate security to be effective
